When introduced in 03, the Murano had a unique combination of features which, in retrospect, makes his studio design la Jolla, California and chief designer Taiji Toyota look engineering.

Murano was built on the Altima platform, making it relatively inexpensive to build. There was a four-wheel independent suspension to the first segment, which gives a true car-like driving experience . He presented generous proportions, but avoided the three lines in favor of spacious seating for five. Combined with its anti-establishment style catchy, snappy V6 245 horsepower, and the total lack of pretension off-road, it was 21 st spiritual successor century to the personal luxury car.

Nissan Murano softened the driving dynamics over the years, but otherwise remained true to its old formula of 13. Moving with the market enabled the Murano weather a storm of competition and even defeated the mighty Toyota. It is the most direct competitors are the Ford Edge, launched in 06, and the Toyota Venza, published in 08. The Edge dominated the niche since his arrival, but not at the expense of Murano. Venza eclipsed the Murano in one year model (09) on the way to falling flat sales and finally canceled last year. Murano sales plunged with the recession, but remained stable before returning to near pre-recession heights with the launch of a complete overhaul in 2015.

Exterior

the 2016 Murano lives up to its lineage with the love-it-or-hate-it style. No matter which side you fall on, this cross will not get lost in the crowd. It embraces "Energetic Flow" Nissan design language now grille V-Motion, boomerang headlights and floating roof. Design is busy but well set comes with visual distinction.

My only problem is with the outside tire dimensions. The aluminum alloy wheels finished in 20-inch machine on the high grade Platinum are sharp, and tires of 55 series offer a reasonable compromise between appearance and conduct. However, the 235 / 55R20 all-season are too narrow. Viewed from the rear, the position of slender Murano hobbles its sporting pretensions. By comparison, the standard rubber Ford Edge Titanium has a 245 mm section width. And Edge Sport can be optioned up to a 265mm section width. While dual exhaust Murano say go, tires say take it slow.

Interior

Much like a new partner, outside the car must be attractive enough to attract. But it is in and to drive where the owners spend their time and where the continued interest is won or lost. It is refreshing to see and Nissan invest in domestic proportional to its size. And its easy to see why the Murano earned a spot on the prestigious list of Wards 10 Best interiors. The quality of materials, the fit and finish and ergonomics are the best in class and should give buyers Lexus RX350 break.

The Murano has a spacious int erior and clean and modern and in spec Platinum includes the amenities you would expect in a $ 40,000 crossover: temperature control, dual-zone heated and cooled power seats before, tilt / telescopic steering, Intelligent Cruise control, Bose sound, panoramic electric sunroof, navigation, and more

As with the exterior. The interior takes chances. Garnish Jasper Pearl is a hard plastic, but it is honest and not trying to get closer to an organic material. It is little used on the upper instrument panel, center console and the four doors. Leather with cashmere, it works. The design team, however, seems to run short of funds when orchestrating the speaker load cell phone before the center armrest. It is too shallow to close with a cell phone in and operates with limited positive reaction and no sense of weight. Its good look, but the quality of its coverage is tied with a Happy Meal toy.

The people of Nissan marketing could be taken to task for their description of overworked seats. But these "front seats Zero Gravity NASA Inspired and rear peripheral" are really comfortable, offering free driving cramp throughout my 400 miles with the car. Legroom in the rear seats is wide, exceeding the Maxima over four inches, well below the two-inch edge. with tilt, temperature control, heated seats, and USB ports, rear passengers are well cared for.

Technology

navigation is standard Nissan, which means well. in the center of the infotainment system is an 8-inch display with touch screen, voice and steering wheel mounted. I gravitated toward the touch screen, which works reliably with almost zero lag. voice inputs are easy calls and Bluetooth phone of the transition is less disruptive than some competing systems. easy to use text messaging hands free and clear backup camera are also here. Around View Monitor system is also a feature of welcome, which will place the Murano more quickly and accurately when parking.

From a security standpoint, the Murano shines. It offers all the necessary acronyms: ABS (Antilock Brakes Four-wheel), VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control), TCS (Traction Control System), BSW (Blind Spot Warning) and ATCM (Rear Cross Traffic Alert). The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gives the Murano one Superior overall rating, with top marks in all categories including small overlap frontal crash test difficult. However, Forward Collision Warning Predictive (PFCW) a nd Forward Emergency Braking (FEB) systems are unnecessarily invasive. The PFCW system produces audible warnings in heavy freeway traffic that startled passengers and unnecessary braking assistance system of the FEB made which upset the driver. systems were not working? Absolutely not. But this tester would prefer a "tune" less invasive for each system.

Training

The standard Murano and only motivation comes from familiar 3.5-liter DOHC V6 Nissan mated to a transmission Xtronic CVT day. In the 4020 Murano book, maturity V6 VQ-series makes 260 horsepower at 6,000 rpm. A review of last year, the model front-wheel drive is good for a 0-60 sprint in 7.1 seconds responsible. Given the 130 pounds modest weight penalty for all-wheel drive, acceleration is probably identical.

Thanks to the CVT and a coefficient of drag of 0.31 Porsche 911 matching the rated fuel economy is a competitive 21/28/24 (city / highway / combined). In a mixed Highway 400 mile mountain, highway, and the test cycle in the city, most of it with four people and a full load, the Murano delivered 22 mpg.

player

Nissans commitment to the creation of a cross unassuming off road - no 4 × 4 switch here - has enabled it to deliver a vehicle that rolls every bit like a big car. The ride is smooth and composed, if a little soft. The 2016 Murano is not the relatively edgy handling of the original. Its not four-door sport ute it once was. However, the nose-heavy crossover goes with ordinary sedans through canyons, with modest acceptable roll and steering feel. He quietly absorbs uneven pavement and is most at home in the city or on the highway.

But do not push too hard right pedal at the exit of a rolling stop. On two of these occasions, I applied only to hear the heavy gas build towers while the speedometer and my butt indicated what might be charitably described as lethargic acceleration. Unlike 2016 Maxima, with essentially the same chassis, the Murano clearly communicates the original belt-drive transmission. However, as the Maxima, a committed driving enthusiast will likely have looked elsewhere.

The Murano drives well. My biggest problem is that its appearance search-me is not offset by the watch-me-go driving dynamics. If you want a crossover with sporty driving and speeding, visit the Ford Edge Sport. However, the average driver will not pulsed by the CVT Murano, satisfied with his credible acceleration, and impressed by its comfort and calm composure

Price

like other Nissans, the Murano offers a simple set of trim levels with a limited menu of options. The base S with FWD starts at $ 29.660. The equilibrium levels step through SV, SL and Platinum. All-whee l drive is an option of $ 1,0 over the entire range. With the Technology Package (panoramic sunroof, intelligent cruise control, PFCW, FEB), carpeted floor mats all around, and AWD, the tester stickered Platinum about as high as you can go with a Murano in $ 44,070. The price is competitive, beating a Ford Edge Titanium similarly equipped of about $ 1,000.

Nissan does more with less. The Murano has an engine and transmission, but is poised to move more than 100,000 units for the first time on the sales base through the first quarter of 2016. The Murano combines expressive exterior with an inner dynamic and traditional own , well executed driving. It can not have been the first crossing, but it has been and continues to be excused and focused on what he wants to be - a set of value in sports Niche midsize crossover. Think of it as a modern interpretation of personal luxury vehicle

Disclosure: .. Nissan provided the vehicle, insurance, and a fuel tank for the pu rpose of this review
